DESCRIPTION

Explores and investigates unique patterns and forms of hate and anger through vocal expressions and generative design. The works are audiovisuals and display various forms of hate and anger emotions that were recorded in-situ during the Hate Festival in Chungju-si, Korea (2018). Each audiovisual is an isolated visual artifact of hate and anger and critical to the interpretation and, consequently, of the culture and the experiences of the people that formed it. Each hate experience is arranged through an audio recording into a circular shape where the beginning and end disappear, and thus the experience of hate becomes isolated into a single timeless shape - without beginning and end. The audiovisuals in this video display fury, growl, pain, rage, yell, angry, fuck!, moan, scratch, and anger. <Hate in-situ> is made with an algorithm (Processing), conceptualized and directed by David Mrugala, vocalized by Jung Ho Ryong, Heo Won Young and Lee Hyeong Min. The work is in progress and based on discussions regarding the definition, expressions and aesthetics of hate and anger though audiovisuals.

ARTIST'S NOTE

Working a lot with generative and procedural art for which writing own algorithms. This work in particular is a continuation of the artist's research on audiovisuals and connects to a prior large series on the Sound of Space. So, working with this medium was not new for the artist. However, the idea of visualizing emotions came upon an invitation to the Hate Festival in 2018 in Chungju, Korea. Was invited to give a workshop on creative coding and as soon as arrived at the location, spontaneously decided to relate it to the theme of the festival – hate. So, the idea for this project was born in-situ and was lucky to involve several workshop participants, who engaged with the artist in the discussion and definition of expressing hate and anger emotions.
