New Media Workshop with THE MEDIUM

Today’s world is inseparable from media, and there are many different horizons of medium. Cameras, LED, project, smart phones, sand.. An opportunity to experience 5 different medium encompassing both old and new with your own hands! You will be able to experience ‘new’ ways of production and consumption of media through ‘new’ device in this NeMaf 2011 workshop. All workshop takes place in THE MEDUIM.

1. Making Camera – “Self Making Camera”
Everyone has cameras, even in every mobile phone. The workshop focuses on fundamentals of cameras by assembling Pinhole Camera kit.
Lecture on camera’s structure and function, and aesthetic the instrument has. Then with assembled Camera kit during the lecture, you can take pictures of NeMaf 2011 and post. (online and offline)

2. Media media pasade- “Emergence of imagined spaces”
Learn how to project certain space around us or three dimensional objects, out of flat surface, and change surroundings and significances.
Understand meanings by exploring various examples of projection mapping. Tutor will introduce and explain fundamentals and methods based on his works.

3. Workshop through smart phones – “shall we have smart fun?”
Many shoot videos, UCCs and pictures through smart phones; the age of ‘public video authors’. NeMaf 2011, visioning alternative cinema, prepared where you can shoot movies/music videos with your smart phones more ‘smartly’. We invite all of you who wish to have fun to experience whole producing process of a movie with a smart phone.
Using smart phone, make one-cut movie/music video. The outputs will be uploaded to NeMaf 2011 official you tube account.

4. sand animation workshop – Metamorphosis
Sand can be used as crayon to draw pictures which makes beautiful movements with lights. You can experience how common sand with light can be a measure to express beauty, and make stories through its movements. You can be an artist making movements by using sand, light, camera and computer.
A brief introduction of principles and followed by practice, each of you will be drawing pictures with sand and make it into a animation.

5. Handmade Technology DIY – Tech DIY
A workshop to approach electric circuit used in media art through needle, thread and fabric.
First half lecture on hand made technology, explaining DIY concept, and second half on making LED based accessories using fabric DIY kit.
