ARTIST'S NOTE

<Image Hunting / 이미지 헌팅 (2018)> 에서는 지하철에서 ‘몰카’를 당했던 경험을 바탕으로, 2년간 사건이 전개되는 과정을 기록한 영상과 ‘여성 이미지’들이 재현되는 방식을 차용하여 연출한 장면, 공중파 방송, 인터넷 팟캐스트, 수집한 이미지 등이 뒤섞인 영상 작업이다. 나는 여러 매체들을 이용하여 이미지들을 생산하고 내보내는데, 이러한 재현 행위 속에서 이미지들은 수많은 변환의 과정을 거친다. 이 일련의 과정- image taking – converting – making – outing- 에서 기존의 이미지들은 그 이미지들을 담고 있던 매체를 바꾸기도하고, 여러 이미지 생산의 방법들을 차용하며 서로를 미러링하기도 한다. 이를 통해 이미지들은 기존의 맥락을 이탈한 새로운 이미지로서 재탄생하기도 하지만 이미 고정된 과거의 이미지를 확증편향하는 방향으로 재현되기도 한다. 그렇지만 이렇게 재현되는 때에도 엄밀히 말해 이를 과거의 이미지와 같은 것이라고 할수는 없다. 나에게 있어 이미지를 생산하는다는 것은 기존의 이미지들-그것이 관념적인 것이든 실제 물질성을 획득한 것이든-을 원 소스로 가지면서도 완전히 다른 이미지와 기억을 재창출해 내는 일인 것이다.

Image Hunting (2018), which is based on the personal experience of having been a spycam victim, combines the footages of the two years of investigation into this case and the staged scenes that narrate the various ways in which images are represented in our world. I produce and release images through various media—the acts of representation through which the images undergo numerous types of conversion. In these processes of image taking, converting, making and releasing, sometimes the media that contain the pre-existing images become transformed, or sometimes these images are mirrored by adopting various methods of image production. Through this, the images are not only reborn through decontextualization, but also represented based on the confirmatory bias against the fixed images in the past.

이다은은 2000년대 후반 이후의 미디어 환경에서 등장한 서브컬쳐 및 미시적 개인의 이야기에 관심을 가지고 작업을 이어나가고 있다. 최근에는 대중매체 및 예술작품에서의 서발턴들의 이미지 재현방식에 대해 연구중이며, 사진, 비디오, 설치, 퍼포먼스, 프로젝트 등 다양한 매체를 사용하여 이를 시각화 하고 있다. 한국예술종합학교 미술원 조형예술과 전문사를 졸업하고 개인전 <Image ; Converting ; Images, 갤러리175>(2018), <Image Hunting, 소네마리>(2018), <Enjoy : Motel, 대안예술공간이포>(2016) 및 < Anti-Freeze, 합정지구 >(2019), <뉴스, 리플리에게, 서울시립 북서울미술관>(2018), <누가 그녀를 모함했나? 서교예술실험센터>(2018), <환영받지 못하는 자, 탈영역우정국>(2018)등 다수의 단체전에 참가했다.

LEE Daeun

LEE Daeun has been working with an interest in the subculture and micro individuals who have appeared in the media environment since the late 2000s. Recently, Lee is researching Subaltern's image reproduction method for media and works of art, and Lee visualizes this using various media such as photography, video, installation, performance, and projects. Lee received her M.F.A at Korea Nationl University of Arts and has participated in a number of group exhibitions held in Hapjeongjigu, SeMA, Buk- seoul, Museum of Art, Seoul Art Space Seogy, Post Territory Ujeongguk etc, including the solo exhibitions <Image; Converting; Images, Gallery175> (2018), <Image Hunting, Sonemari> (2018), <Enjoy: Motel, Alternative Art Space Ipo>(2016).
