ARTIST'S NOTE

인간은 기억하고 싶은 것만 기억한다. 이를 빗대어 ‘라쇼몽 효과’라고 한다. ‘라쇼몽 효과(Rashomon Effect)’는 즉 같은 사건을 두고 서로 다른 입장으로 해석하면서 현재의 자신을 정당화하기 위해 기억을 재편집하는 현상이다. 가상현실 영화 ‘단 하루의 여행’은 관객에게 사랑했던 남녀가 만났던 하루의 다른 기억의 조각들을 경험하게 한다.

<단 하루의 여행>은 베트남이라고 하는 타국에서 만난 남녀의 하루 동안의 기억에 대한 이야기이다. 영화는 남녀가 기억하는 하루에 대한 다른 기억의 흔적을 남자의 이야기와 여자의 이야기를 통해 각각 보여준다. 그들은 같은 시간, 같은 공간에 존재하며 같지만 조금은 다른 기억을 이야기한다.

수진과 혁은 현재 우리의 청춘들처럼 꿈과 현실 사이에서 방황하며 힘들어 하는 와중 베트남으로 여행을 오게 된다. 타국에서 우연히 만난 그들은 서로의 꿈과 꿈을 향한 각자의 여정에 대해 이야기하며 서로에게 마음을 열게 된다. 시간이 흐른 현재의 여자와 남자가 기억하는 과거 그 하루의 기억은 남자의 이야기와 여자의 이야기를 통해 각각 다른 시점을 보여주며, 각자가 기억하고 싶어 하는 대로 편집된 서로의 모습을 이야기한다. 그들의 이야기는 같은 듯 보이지만 서로 매우 다르기도 하다. 관객은 두 편의 서로 다른 시점의 가상현실 영화를 통해 서로 다른 남녀의 공간과 시간을 경험할 수 있다.

Human only remembers what he or she wants to remember. It is called the "Rashomong effect". The "Rashomon Effect" is a phenomenon that interprets the same incident in different positions and reorganizes the memory to justify the current self. The virtual reality film "Memory of the Day" gives the audience a chance to experience different pieces of memory of the day when the man and woman they loved met.

Memory of the Day tells the story of a man and a woman's one-day memory they met in a foreign country Vietnam. The movie shows the traces of different memories of a day that the man and the woman remember, respectively, through his and her stories. They exist at the same time, in the same space, and talk about the same but slightly different memories.

Sujin and Hyuk are traveling to Vietnam, and they are both struggling, wandering between dreams and reality, just like our youth. When they happen to meet in another country, they open their minds to each other by talking about each other's dreams and their respective journeys to their dreams. As time goes by, the memories of the past day of the woman and a man's memories show different points of view through his story and her story, each telling an edited version of each other as it pleases to remember. Their stories seem the same, but they are also very different from each other. The audience can experience the different space and time of the man and the woman through two different VR films.

 

강지영 강지영은 미국 Pratt Institute에서 컴퓨터 그래픽스, New York University에서 Interactive Telecommunications Program(ITP), 한국 카이스트에서 감성 인터랙션 연구로 박사학위를 취득하였다. 다양한 실무 경험과 강의경험을 바탕으로 현재 단국대학교 영화콘텐츠전문대학원의 융합영상콘텐츠 전공과 SW융합콘텐츠 주임교수로 가상현실 및 증강현실 기술과 콘텐츠의 융합을 연구, 지도하고 있다. 또한 기술과 예술을 융합하여 다양한 미디어 작품을 창조하는 뉴미디어 아티스트로 활동 중이다. 대표전시로 예술의 전당 ‘Perdue’ 전과 세종문화회관 ‘Reveal’, ‘Beyond’ 전이 있다. 베니스 국제 영화제 베스트 VR 스토리상을 수상한 VR 다큐멘터리 영화 ‘동두천’을 프로듀싱 하였으며, SFC Women’s Film Festival에서 Best VR상을 수상한 인터랙티브 VR 영화 ‘소녀에게’를 공동 연출하고 총괄 프로듀싱 하였다.

KANG Jiyoung KANG Jiyoung majored in Computer Graphics at Pratt, Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University, and got a PH.D for the research about emotional interaction at Korea Institute of Advanced Science and Technology (KAIST). Based on various work and lecture experiences, Jiyoung is researching and teaching the convergence of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technology as a full-time professor. Jiyoung is also active as a new media artist who creates various media art pieces with a convergence of art and technology. The major exhibitions were ‘perdue’ at the Seoul Arts Center and ‘reveal’ and ‘Beyond’ at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. She produced VR Documentary film ‘Bloodless’ that won Best VR Story award at Venice International Film Festival. She also co-directed and produced ‘.FLY’ that won the best VR award at SFC Women’s Film Festival.
