DESCRIPTION

나의 어머니는 3년 전 스마트 폰을 사용하면서부터 평소 여행이나 등산, 가족의 일상 등 삶의 소소한 일들을 훗날 추억하고자 습관적으로 스마트 폰을 이용해 기록해 왔다. 이후 주거지의 재개발 문제로 철거대책위원회 일을 맡으면서 휴대전화기를 이용한 기록은 감시와 증거채집의 목적을 병행하게 된다.

My mother, ever since she started using a smart phone, has habitually been recording trips or mountain climbing, family’s day-to-day routine, and other small events in order to cherish a good old memory in her heart. As she took a role in the prevention committee for redevelopment issues of residence area later on, cellular phone recording activity adds another purpose of surveillance and evidence gathering.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

이 작품은 어머니의 휴대전화기에 기록된 2011년 8월부터 2013년 12월까지의 사진과 영상, 녹취된 음성을 취합, 편집한 영상이다. 어머니의 기록을 통해 엿보이는 그녀의 개인적 관심사, 그리고 그녀가 당면한 상황과 사건으로 인해 설정되는 집단의 모습은 놀이와 싸움의 교차로 보여 진다. 허나 둘 사이 본질적 내용 차이의 간극은 ‘연대’라는 집단 형태의 유사성을 통해 희석된다. 자기이익을 위한 수단으로서의 행위와 자기이익 자체가 목적인 행위 사이를 넘나들며 살아가는 그녀의 평범한 삶의 기록을 통해 무엇과 함께, 또는 무엇처럼 살아가는 우리의 모습을 보여주고자 한다.

This video production is an edited work of photographs, videos, and audio recordings in my mother’s cellular phone from August of 2011 to December of 2013. Her personal interests shown through the archive, and collective appearances shown through her encounter with situation and events are seen as an intersection of amusements and fights. However, a gap between the two essential contents becomes diluted through the affinity of collective form ‘solidarity.’ Through the recording of her ordinary life that crosses between an action for a means for self-interest and an action for self-interest itself, I wanted to show our image living with and like something.

홍승범

1981년생. 한국예술종합학교 예술사와 전문사에서 조형예술을 전공했다. 2005년 주한스페인대사관에서 주최한 <광기예찬> 영상공모전에서 대상을 수상하였으며, <트랜스 삼부작>(2008), <유토피아 관리>(2009), <Suggestive Moments>(2009), <요코하마 프랑스 비디오 컬랙션 2009>(2009), <Awkward Harmony>(2009), <Cinema Killed The Video Star>(2014) 등의 전시에 참여한 바 있다.

HONG Seung-bum

HONG was born in 1981, and studied plastic arts at the Korean National University of Arts, both undergraduate and graduate courses. His work Serial Killers - in Praise of Madness won the first prize at a film/video contest organized by the Embassy of Spain in Seoul. Apart from this, he also has been involved in exhibitions such as Trans Trilogy (2008), Managing Utopia (2009), Suggestive Moments (2009), Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse 2009 (2009), Awkward Harmony (2009), and Cinema Killed The Video Star (2014).
