제 25회 서울국제대안영상예술페스티벌 한국 부문에는 돌봄, 이주, 여성, 노동을 주제로 다룬 영상, 그리고 인간 중심주의를 넘어 동물•식물•AI 와의 관계를 재사유하는 영상 등 다양한 작품들이 출품되었다. 에세이 영상 형식의 작품이 이례적으로 다수 출품되었고, 혼합장르의 실험적인 작품들도 눈에 띄었다. 예심 선정작들을 관통하는 인상은 ‘혼란한 현실에 대한 감각적 응답’이다. 계엄, 재개발, 기후 위기 등 현실의 중층적 불안 속에서 작가들은 완성된 메시지를 전달하기보다는, 불완전한 감각의 조각들을 모으거나 흩뿌리는 듯 보였다. 정체불명의 괴물, 숲, 흉추, 훼손된 기억과 필름... 작품들은 현실의 구조를 직접 설명하기보다는, 그 잔해 위에서 느껴지는 떨림을 응시하거나 부조리한 상황의 희극성을 드러내기도 했다. 생성형 AI 기술과 다큐가 결합된 하이브리드 영상들이 실재와 허구의 경계를 한 층 더 무너뜨리는 한편 ‘걷기’나 몸의 움직임을 통한 장소 감각, 애도 등의 수행성을 차분히 보여주는 작품들이 있었고, 비인간 중심의 생태적 감수성으로 학문과 예술의 융합을 시도한 작품까지, 올해의 네마프도 역시 새로운 시선과 영감으로 충만한 작품들이 관객들을 기다리고 있다. 2025년 제25회 서울국제대안영상예술페스티벌(네마프2025)의 글로컬 섹션에서는 실험영화, 극영화, 다큐멘터리, 미디어 아트, 애니메이션 등 다양한 장르에서 총 405편의 신작이 출품되었습니다. 이 작품들은 각기 다른 문화적 맥락 속에서 제작되었으며, 디아스포라 정체성, 정치적 경험, 생태적 상상력, 기억과 시간 탐구 등 동시대의 핵심 주제를 집중적으로 다루고 있습니다. 선정 과정은 결코 간단하지 않았습니다. 뛰어난 완성도와 다양한 형식의 실험을 통해 영화적 언어가 융합된 최고의 영화들을 심사할 수 있었습니다. 최종 선정된 작품들은 홍콩 민주화 시위, 이란 신화적 풍경, 팔레스타인 디아스포라 저항 서사, 아르헨티나 동물원 노동자, 동물과 자연의 삶, 스페인 트라문타나 산맥의 감각적 초상을 통해 인간 존재의 복잡성과 균열을 깊이 탐구하고 있습니다. 이들 영화는 16mm 필름부터 애니메이션과 실사 이미지의 하이브리드 구성에 이르기까지 다층적인 시청각 언어를 활용하였습니다. 일부 작품은 전통적인 이야기 구조를 해체하고 비선형적 구성에 도전하며, 다른 작품들은 음악적 리듬을 영화적 감각으로 변환하는 실험을 보여줍니다. 이러한 시도들은 감각을 재구성하고 시각적 성찰을 유도하는 새로운 영화적 공간을 열어주었습니다. 올해 글로컬 섹션은 최종적으로 14편의 단편과 3편의 장편이 선정되었습니다. ‘글로컬 시네마’가 단순한 지리적 혼종성을 넘어서 지역적 경험과 세계적 서사가 만나는 지점을 탐구한다는 점에서, 시네마가 여전히 세계를 성찰하고 재구성할 수 있는 힘을 지닌 매체임을 다시 확인시켜주는 영화들임을 확신합니다. 이들 작품은 세 개의 단편 섹션과 두 편의 장편 상영으로 구성되며, 관객들과의 깊이 있는 만남을 기대하고 있습니다. 이번 여름, 이 작품들이 우리 시대의 긴급한 가치를 놓고 관객들과 의미 있는 대화를 나눌 수 있는 장이 되기를 기대합니다. At the 25th Seoul International. ALT ciNema MediArt Festival year 2025, the Glocal Section received a total of 405 new works across diverse genres, including experimental film, fiction, documentary, media art, and animation. These works, created within various cultural contexts, closely examine contemporary themes such as diasporic identity, political experience, ecological imagination, and explorations of memory and time. The selection process was by no means simple. We had the privilege of reviewing some of the finest films, marked by outstanding craftsmanship and a wide range of formal experimentation that fused into rich cinematic languages. The final selections delve deeply into the complexities and fractures of human existence through subjects such as the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests, Iran’s mythic landscapes, narratives of resistance within the Palestinian diaspora, zookeepers in Argentina, the intertwined lives of animals and nature, and sensory portraits of the Tramuntana Mountains in Spain. These works employ multi-layered audiovisual languages, ranging from 16mm film to hybrid constructions combining animation and live-action footage. Some deconstruct traditional narrative frameworks and experiment with non-linear structures, while others translate musical rhythm into cinematic sensation. Such approaches open new cinematic spaces that reconfigure sensory perception and prompt visual reflection. This year, the Glocal Section has selected fourteen short films and two feature-length films. These works reaffirm the belief that cinema remains a powerful medium capable of reflecting on and reimagining the world, as they explore the intersection where local experiences and global narratives converge- going beyond mere geographic hybridity. The program will be presented in three short film sections and two feature film screenings, offering audiences opportunities for deep engagement. We look forward to these films becoming a space for meaningful dialogue with viewers this summer, as they confront the urgent values of our time.
