DESCRIPTION
낡은 축음기에서 흘러나오는 듯한 음색으로 ‘G선상의 아리아’가 흐르고 성별도 표정도 없는, ‘캐릭터’라고 할 수 없는 존재들은 음악에 맞춰 각자의 춤을 춘다. 그들의 춤사위는
크기도 하고 정지해 있기도 하지만 모두들 오래 전 연주가 반복 재생되는 소리와 그들이 발 디디고 있는 푸른 지반에서 벗어나려 하지 않는다. 시간의 흐름이 그들 머릿속의 규칙에서 벗어나고 그들을 떠받치는 공간이 극적으로 변화해도 그들은 애써 자리를 떠나지 않고 음악의 명령을 따라가려 한다. 그렇게 하는 표정 없는 그들의 모습은 서글프게 다가온다. ‘경주’라는 뜻의 제목을 지닌 이 작품은 삶의 어떤 방식을 무개성의 존재들의 춤을 통해 표현하고 있다. 시공간 속에 살아가는 우리는 그것과 어떤 관계를 맺으며 살아가는가. (설경숙)
On ‘Aria on G String’ played by an old record player, the genderless emotionless beings that we cannot call ‘characters’ start to dance. Their dances are sometimes big and sometimes motionless. One common thing is that they all try to stick on the music and the spot they stand on. Even though the time flows out of rules they know and the space they stand on radically changes, they struggle to stay there following the command of the music. Watching them doing so is actually mirthless. Race expresses a certain way of life through this de-individualized beings’ dances. How do we relate to the time and space we’re living in? (Suan SEOL)
