DESCRIPTION

인간의 사고와 행동은 몸과 두뇌와 환경으로 이루어진다. 인간의 생물학적, 인류학적 진화는 이 인지 작용의 변화, 발전 과정이다. 영상매체의 발명도 이런 흐름에서 인간의 인지작용을 비약적으로 발전시키고 자신들의 몸과 정신, 환경을 넓혀내는데 큰 역할을 했다. 현재의 영상기술은 기존의 일방적이며 제한된 시각체계를 벗어나고자 노력하고 있다.

본 작업에서는 영화 초기의 선구자들의 역사적 작업들에 관심을 두었다. 그들은 왜, 무엇을 위해 만들었을까? 그들의 시도들은 현재 어떤 의미로, 어떻게 남아 우리에게 전해졌는가? 그리고 우리는 영상과 어떤 관계 맺기를 하고 있을까? 만약 그들이 여기에 지금 놓여진다면 어떤 생각을 할 것인가? 나는 현재의 영상매체의 변화 속에서 영상의 발전에 대한 돌아보기와 미리 보기를 함께하고자 작업을 시도한다.

Human thought and behavior are the works combined with body, brain and environment. Biological and anthropological evolution of human being is the process of change and development of such cognition ability. In such process, invention of visual media has done a great role in substantially developing human cognition ability and in expanding its body, brain and environment. The current video technology tries to go beyond the existing visual structure which is one-directional and limited.

This work pays attention to the historical works of pioneers at early times of film making. For what and why did they make films? What meaning do their attempts have now? How could they be kept and passed to us? What relationship do we want to make with visual media? If they are now here, what kind of thought do they have? Reality in the jar series tries to look back and forward development of video under the current change of visual media.

서울 태생으로 사진과 영화를 탐구해 왔다. 보는 것과 듣는 것이 인간에게 어떤 의미인지, 사진과 영화가 어떻게 만들어지고 사용되는지, 두 매체간의 관계는 무엇인지 등에 관심을 두고 작업한다. 상업영화 현장에서 조감독으로 4년간 일했으며, 영화, 사진, 실험 영상, 공연을 위한 영상작업을 하고 있다. 순천대, 부산대 등에서 학생들과 영상제작과 이론에 대한 경험과 생각을 나누고 있다.

LEE Sanguk

LEE Sanguk is interested in the relationship between human cognition and visual media. He has experiences in Korean feature film production as assistant director and in TV animation and documentary. He makes films, photography works and videos for performing art. He teaches at several universities.
