DESCRIPTION
1905년, 대한(大韓)의 한 사내가 유카탄의 에네껜 농장에서 일하기 위해 묵서가(墨西哥)로 향한다. 그리고 2015년, 멕시코에 뿌리를 내른 그 사내의 자녀들, 또 그들의 자녀들이 나눈 이야기들—기억, 증언, 신화—속에서 사내가 되살아난다. 이야기들을 유도하는 “나”와 그 이야기들을 다시금 수행해내는 “사내.” 이야기들은 역사가 되고, 역사는 이야기가 되어간다.
A man travels from Korea to Mexico in 1905 to work the henequen plantations of Yucatán. He is resurrected in the “stories”—memories, testimonies, and myths—shared by his children and grandchildren in 2015. As a conversation transcending time and space progresses between the “I” who mediates the stories and “the man” who performs the articulated stories, the boundaries between fictional tales and actual occurrences begin to blur: the stories become history and history becomes a story.
