존 토레스

존 토레스는 1975년생의 마닐라 출신이며, 독립 영화 감독이자 프로듀서, 작가 및 음악가로 활동하고 있다. 그는 다섯 편의 장편 영화와 열두 편 이상의 단편 영화를 제작했다. 그의 네 번째 장편 영화인<이상한 루카스>는 2012년에 로테르담 국제 영화제에서 초연되었으며, 2013년에는 리마 독립국제영화제에서특별 표창을 수상하였다. 같은 시기, 아트포럼 잡지는 <이상한 루카스>를 "보기보다 더욱 신비로운 영화 중 하나"로 묘사하였으며, 현 상황에서는 “예측할 수 없는 라이브 음악과 영화의 결합, 다큐멘터리와 픽션의 혼합 및 경계를 흐리는 다양한 실습 사이에 둘러 쌓여 있을 때 조차도 근사하고 훌룡하게 기괴” 하다고 표현했다. 그의 최신작인 <피플 파워 밤쉘: 더 다이어리 오브 베트남 로즈>는 현재 로테르담 국제영화제에서 상영 중이다.

John Torres (b. 1975) is an independent film director, producer, writer, and musician from Manila. He has made five feature films and over a dozen short films. His fifth feature, Lukas The Strange , premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2012. It won a Special Mention at the Festival de Cine Lima Independiente in 2013. Artforum  describes Lukas The Strange  as “one of the more mysterious films to surface” in 2013, as it is “ineffably and gloriously odd even when it’s situated amid the bounty of unpredictable live-music-and-movie matchups, doc-fiction hybrids, and other exercises in boundary blurring...”
