DESCRIPTION
애리조나의 바이어스피어 2에서 촬영된 작품으로, 지구의 마지막 여성에 대해 이야기한다. 이 작품은 인류와 자연계의 관계라는 측면에서 바이오스피어 2와 같은 시도가 오늘날과 가까운 미래에 대해 어떤 의미가 있는지 다룬다.
The last woman on Earth. Filmed inside Biosphere 2 in Arizona, Urth forms a cinematic meditation on ambitious experiments, constructed environments, and visions of the future. Writer Mark von Schlegell contributes a textread as the final log instalments of a woman sealed inside an unforgiving environment. The film considers what an endeavor such as Biosphere 2 might mean today and in the near future, in terms of humankind's relationship with the natural world.

벤 리버스 벤 리버스는 팔머스 예술대학에서 순수미술을 전공했다. 사진과 슈퍼 8mm 영화로 옮겨가기 전에는 조각을 공부했다. 졸업한 후에는 16mm 영화의 제작과 수작업을 독학으로 공부했다. 필름메이커로서 그는 다큐멘터리와 픽션의 경계에서 서 있는 작가이다. 국제영화비평가연맹의 국제비평가상, 발로와즈 예술상, 폴 햄린 재단 예술가상 등 수많은 상의 수상자이다.

Ben RIVERS Ben Rivers studied Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art, initially in sculpture before moving into photography and super8 film. After his degree he taught himself 16mm filmmaking and hand processing. His practice as a filmmaker treads a line between documentary and fiction. Often following and filming people who have in some way separated themselves from society, the raw film footage provides Rivers with a starting point for creating oblique narratives imagining alternative existences in marginal worlds. |
