Artist's Statement

1990년대 후반 세계 중장거리 육상계를 휩쓸었던 마군단이 복용했다는 중국 고대로부터 내려오는 거북이 수프 일화에서 영감을 받아 제작하였다. 인간의 향상심을 충족하기 위해 여러 약물들이 은밀히 사용된 역사적 흔적을 연대기로 구성하는 과정을 통하여 인간의 안녕에 대한 환상과 그 이면의 경쟁이 교차되는 이야기에 접근한다.

This work was inspired by a medicinal turtle soup from ancient China, which was taken by the athletes known as Ma’s army, who swept through the world medium long-range track and field events in the late 1990s. Through the reconstruction of hidden historical secrets of various medicines used to improve speed, strength, and stamina of human, the artist examines the fantasy of human well-being and the force behind the illusions of unlimited well-being.

심동수

심동수(1983년 서울 출생)는 추계예술대학교 회화과를 졸업하고 한국예술종합학교 조형예술과 비디오 아트 전문사 과정을 수료했다. 쿤스트독 겔러리에서 큐레이터로 근무했으며, 대안예술공간 이포에서 첫 개인전을 가졌다. 시대의 흐름 속에 생성되는 이미지가 개인의 삶이 어떻게 서로에게 관여하는가에 관심을 가지고, 그 관심사를 영상으로 옮기는 작업을 준비하고 있다.

SHIM Dongsu

SHIM Dongsu finished the graduate school course work in KNUA. He has worked at the Kunst Doc Gallery as a curator and had his first solo exhibition at Alternative Space Ipo.
