Artist's Statement

민주주의의 역사인 대한민국 광주의 중심적 공간인 ‘금남로’의 500년 역사를 새로운 형태의 도시기록 매커니즘인 동시형(Parallel)-VR 기법을 통해 재표현한 작품이다. 광주의 옛 읍성을 시작으로 민주 시민운동의 시발점인 3.1운동, 광주 학생 항일운동, 5.18 민주화 운동, 그리고 현재의 촛불집회까지 광주가 이룬 민주주의의 역사를 사료와 문헌 기반으로 가상현실에 적합한 형태로 제작하였다. 한 도시의 장대한 500년 역사를 온 몸으로 경험해볼 수 있는 작품이다.

It is a work re-expressed through Parallel-VR technique, a new type of urban recording mechanism, of the 500-year history of 'Geumnamro', the central space of Gwangju which is a history of Korean democracy. Starting with the old town of Gwangju, the history of the democracy, Gwangju has achieved, was created in a form suiting virtual reality based on historical records and literature: the March First Independence Movement which triggered democratic civic movements, Gwangju Student Independence Movement, the May 18 Gwangju Democratic Movement, and the present candlelight rallies. It is a work that can experience the magnificent 500 year history of a city as a whole.

	백호암 백호암은 프랑스 낭트 ESBANM에서 현대미술을 전공하였으며, 미국 국제사진가상인 IPA의 Fine Art 부분에서 수상하였다.	BAEK Hoam BAEK Hoam studied modern art at ESBANM in Nantes, France and won the prize in the category of Fine Art of IPA, the US International Photography Awards.
