DESCRIPTION

<버섯의 건축>은 2017년부터 1년간 제주 곶자왈 숲속 버섯을 낮은 시선과 느린 움직임으로 관찰해 촬영한 영상에 국내외 건축가 13명의 건축에 대한 내레이션을 결합한 작업이다. 버섯은 유기물을 분해하며 양분을 섭취해 살아가는 균류로 숲의 생성과 소멸의 생태적 순환에 중요한 역할을 한다. 한편으로 버섯은 기둥과 지붕이라는 건축적 구조를 압축적으로 가진 생명체이다. 대량생산의 결과로 사라지지 않은 물질이 인류와 자연에게 위협이 되는 시대에 버섯의 소멸과 생성이 건축에서의 다양한 화두와 겹쳐지거나 대비되며 자연과 인간의 관계를 새롭게 상상해보게 한다.

Architecture of Mushroom is a video of low angle, slow-motion shot of mushrooms growing in the Gotjawal forest, Jeju, Korea, taken over a year in 2017, which is accompanied by 13 Korean and foreign architects’ narrations on architecture. Mushrooms, as a kind of fungi, obtain nutrients by decomposing organic matter and thereby play an essential role in the ecological cycle of creation and decay of the forest. On the other hand, they are a living creature with an architectural structure composed of a column and a roof. In this age when materials pose a threat to both man and nature since they never diminish or disappear due to mass production, the growing and fading of mushrooms, sometimes in contrast to and at other times inharmony with various architectural issues, inspires viewers to imagine the relationship between man and nature in a new way.

박선민은 미시를 관찰하는 현미경과 거시를 조망하는 망원경의 양안으로 감각의 사각지대 안에서 차단되는 것과 확장되는 것을 실험해오고 있다. 너무 작거나 멀어서, 혹은 가려져 보이지 않거나 어두워 일상 감각으로 포착하기 어려운 찰나를 작가의 예술 세계로 호명하여 삶의 균열에서 발견되는 파편들을 발견하고 해독하고 있다. 이 과정에서 발견된 확장된 세계를 사유하고 표현하고자 사진, 드로잉, 영상 및 공간설치와 출판, 디자인 등 다양한 매체를 아우르고 있다. 박선민은 서울대학교 조소과를 졸업 후 뒤셀도르프 쿤스트아카데미의 로즈마리트로켈의 지도하에 마이트터슐러를 받았고 국내외 다수의 그룹전과 10 10 여회의 개인전을 개최하였다.

Via binocular vision of microscope and telescope, observing microcosm as well as contemplating macrocosm, PARK Sunmin experiments interception/extension about what from human senses’ dead zone, She recalls the momentariness that can’t be noticed in everyday life by its littleness, distantness, or darkness to her world of art based on discovery /interpretation of the pieces, from our lives' crevices. Her works encompass a wide range of media-photography, drawing, video, installation, publication, and design–to reason and express the extended world, newly discovered from the existing world. After graduating sculpture at Seoul National University, PARK achieved Meister Schüller degree under Prof. Rosemarie Trockel at Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. She has participated in more than 10 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows in korea and abroad.
