ARTIST'S NOTE

‹공화국 찬가›는 안구 표면을 부유하는 속눈썹을 보여주며, 신체의 아주 작은 일부조차도 얼마나 위협적이고 폭력적인 존재가 될 수 있는지를 드러낸다. 외부의 이물질로부터 눈을 보호해야 할 속눈썹이 오히려 고통을 주는 장면은, ‘보호’라는 이름 아래 작동하는 사회 구조와 그 이면에 감춰진 폭력을 떠올리게 한다. 작곡가 김성완과의 협업으로 제작된 사운드트랙은 애국가 합창을 변형한 것으로, 어둡고 거대한 질감의 사운드가 개인과 세계가 충돌하고 교차하는 지점을 극대화한다.

presents the image of an eyelash adrift on the surface of an eye, revealing how a small and familiar part of the body can become unsettling and aggressive. What is meant to protect—the eyelash shielding the eye from foreign matter—becomes a source of pain, prompting reflection on social structures that operate under the name of “protection” while harboring latent violence.
The soundtrack, created in collaboration with composer Sungwan Kim, is a distorted reinterpretation of the Korean national anthem. Its dark, expansive textures heighten the tension where the individual and the collective collide.

    안정윤의 비디오 작품은 개인의 재난과 우울을 다룬다. 그는 이름 없는 존재들이 느끼는 삶과 죽음에 대한 공포를 자신만의 영상 언어로 재해석해 오고 있다. 네덜란드 Academie Minerva에서 미디어아트를 전공했다. ‹공화국찬가 The Hymn of a Republic›(2009)는 제39회 로테르담국제영화제에서 프리미어 상영되었으며, 제10회 서울국제뉴미디어페스티벌에서 신진작가상을 수상했다. ‹구경꾼 Onlooker›(2016)는 제13회 서울국제실험영화제에서 Korean EXiS Award를 수상하고, 한국영상자료원의 2016년 우수 독립영화로 선정되었다. 이후 국립현대미술관, 주영한국문화원, 미디어극장 아이공, 더 스트림, LA Filmforum, 도쿄 EUKARYOTE, 서교예술실험센터, 탈영역우정국, 통의동 보안여관, 안산문화예술의전당 등에서 작품을 선보였다.

    Jeongyoon Ahn’s video works explore personal disaster and depression. She reinterprets the fear of life and death experienced by nameless beings through her own visual language. She studied media art at Academie Minerva in the Netherlands. Her work The Hymn of a Republic (2009) premiered at the 39th International Film Festival Rotterdam and won the Emerging Artist Award at the 10th Seoul International NewMedia Festival. Onlooker (2016) received the Korean EXiS Award at the 13th Seoul International Experimental Film Festival and was selected as one of the Korean Film Archive’s Outstanding Independent Films of 2016. Since then, her works have been presented at institutions including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Korean Cultural Centre UK, Media Theater iGong, The Stream, LA Filmforum, EUKARYOTE in Tokyo, the Seoul Art Space Seogyo, Post Territory Ujeongguk, Artspace Boan1942, and Ansan Arts Center.
