ARTIST'S NOTE

이 비디오 작품이 포함되었던 전시의 제목이기도 한 하달(HADAL)은 수면에서 6,000 미터 이상 깊이의 해저 지층을 의미한다. 그 곳은 빛이 전혀 들어오지 않으며, 기압은 매우 높고, 온도는 섭씨 0도에 가깝다. 이러한 하달의 특성에서 그리스의 죽음의 신 및 그의 영역인 죽음의 장소를 칭하는 ‘하데스’라는 명칭이 생겨났다.

The HADAL exhibition proposes a dive into the ocean's abyss. Hadal is the deepest stratum of the sea, more than 6,000 meters below the surface, where the absence of light is total, the pressure is really high and the temperature is close to 0ºC. These characteristics are what inspired his name from him in reference to the Greek God of death, Hades, and his domains from him, hades area: place of death.

로이스 파티뇨Lois Patiño

1983년 스페인 비고 출생의 로이스 파티뇨는 마드리드 콤플루텐세 대학에서 심리학을, TAI 학교에서 영화를 전공했다. 이후 뉴욕 필름 아카데미와 바르셀로나의 폼페우 파브라 대학교(다큐멘터리 제작 석사)에서 영화 공부를 계속했다. 그는 UdK 베를린에서 비디오 제작 과정에 참석했으며 조안 조너스, 제임스 베닝, 페드로 코스타, 빅토르 에리세, 호세 루이스 구에린 또는 다니엘 카노가와 같은 예술가 및 영화 제작자와 함께 다양한 워크샵에 참석했다.
그의 단편영화 <그림자의 산>은 오버하우젠 국제 단편영화제(독일), 클레르몽페랑 국제단편영화제(프랑스), 부쿠레슈티 국제실험영화제 등에서 상을 받았다. 로카르노 국제 영화제에서 <죽음의 해안>으로 신인 감독상을 수상했다.

Lois Patiño (Vigo, Spain, 1983) combined his studies in Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid with cinema studies at the TAI School. He continued his cinema education at the New York Film Academy and the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona (Master in Creative Documentary). He attended courses in video creation at UdK Berlin and different workshops with artists and filmmakers such as Joan Jonas, James Benning, Pedro Costa, Víctor Erice, José Luis Guerín or Daniel Canogar.
His short film Mountain in Shadow won different awards at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival (Germany), the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France), the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival and others. At the Locarno International Film Festival he received the Prize for the Best Emerging Director for Costa da Morte.
