ARTIST'S NOTE

<FF 외전: 흑사병>은 비디오게임 3D 엔진을 사용하여 시뮬레이션 환경 속에서 브렉시트, 대처리즘 Thatcherism의 유산, 후기식민주의의 조건을 탐구한다. 이 작품은 가상과 상상의 역사를 통해 그들의 관계가 어떻게 형성되는지에 중점을 두고, 작가와 가족의 충격적인 현재 상황을 바탕으로 만든 대본 작업처럼 다양한 소재를 결합한 것이다. 브렉시트는 마치 마거릿 대처Margaret Thatcher 집권 시절처럼 국가 정체성을 과거에서 찾으려는 문화적 변화를 촉진했다.

FF Gaiden: Black Death uses a videogame 3D engine to explore Brexit, the legacy of Thatcherism and the post-colonial condition from inside a simulated environment. This video work combines a plethora of material: script-work based on traumatic stories concerning the artists’ and their families’ present situation with an emphasis on how their relationship is formed through virtual and imagined histories. Brexit has encouraged a cultural shift towards looking to the past for national identity, a narrative made plain during Thatcher’s time in power.
