ARTIST'S NOTE
코로나로 인해 세상이 시대의 상흔을 진찰하던 2021년, 모두를 옭아맨 신체적 비자유의 감각에서 내가 택한 것은 ‘비자유의 주인’이 되는 것이었다. 나는 강남역 한복판에서 난입한 다이버들에 의해 뚫리는 사회적 수압을 목격할 스크린 안과 밖의 여러분을 상상했다. 이 모든 것이 행위예술의 사건이었다가 영화가 되는 과정을 카메라 촬영법들의 치열한 충돌을 통해, 이 세대가 세상의 주체자가 되는 태도로 가시화시키고자 했다.
In 2021, when the world was examining the scars of the times due to COVID-19, what I chose from the sense of physical non-freedom that confined everyone was to become the "master of non-freedom." I imagined you inside and outside the screen witnessing a scene of diving through social limitations in the middle of Gangnam Station. I wanted to visualize this young generation’s attitude of becoming the diver of the world.
DESCRIPTION
대한민국에서 가장 유동 인구가 많은 강남역에 육상 트랙을 그려 스타디움을 세우고 ‘다이빙’이라 이름한 육상경기를 시작한다. 영화의 마지막 장면에 이르러서야 경기의 시작을 알리는 ‘Start’가 뜬다.
The track and field called “Diving” start at a stadium in Gangnam Station, Seoul which has the largest floating population in South Korea. It is not until the last scene of the film that a “Start” appears to announce the start of the game.

조희수Heesoo CHO
조희수는 미술작가이자 영화 감독이다. 그는 한국예술종합학교 미술원의 학부를 다니던 중 독일의 국립대학으로 옮겨 재학중이다. 그는 라이브 퍼포먼스와 극의 네러티브가 영상언어가 되는 과정을 탐구하며, 실험영화를 연출해왔다. 2021년 <더 다이버스>를 시작으로 다수의 전시들과 영화제에 참여했고, 2022년에는 현대자동차그룹 제로원 크리에이터로 선정되어 활동했다. 2023년 올해에는 문화체육관광부 소마미술관의 지원을 받아 커미션 신작을 제작하여 공개한다.
Heesoo CHO is an artist and a film director. He moved to a national university in Germany while attending the Department of Fine Arts at the Korea National University of Arts. He has been directing experimental films, exploring the process of combining live performances and the narrative of plays into video language. Starting with "The Divers" in 2021, he participated in a number of exhibitions and film festivals, and in 2022, he was selected as a Zero One Creator of Hyundai Motor Group. In 2023, this year, with the support of the Soma Museum of Art of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a new commission will be produced.
