ARTIST'S NOTE
주워 온 쓰레기 조각들을 필름 위에 올려놓고 한 줄기 빛을 쬐었더니 그림자가 새겨진다. 영사기 스위치를 돌리자 쓰레기 그림자들이 춤을 춘다. 깊은 상처가 된 기억을 버렸다. 꺼내기 두려웠고 불쾌했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 다시 그 기억 조각을 모으며 그림자를 움직이게 해본다. 어쩌면 쓰레기는 더 이상 관심이 없어진 물건을 말하는 것일 수도 있겠다. 그런 의미에서, 이제부터 이 기억은 쓰레기가 아니다.
She picked up trash, put on 16mm film and exposed a ray of light. Turning the projector switch, the trash shadows danced. The woman threw away deeply scarred memory. Nevertheless, she collected the memory pieces again and animated the shadow. Maybe trash is something that's no longer interesting. In that sense, from now on, this memory is not trash.
DESCRIPTION
인천 송림동에 위치한 여러 폐가에서 쓰레기를 수집한다. 버려진 것들에 새겨진 얼룩을 보고 버려진 이야기를 기억하려 한다.
She collects garbages from various abandoned houses located in Songrim-dong, Incheon. Looking at the engraved stains on the garbages, she tries to remember the abandoned story.

대학에서 조형예술과 사학과를 복수 전공했다. 현재는 네덜란드 필름아카데미에서 연구 과정 중이다. 시각 예술가로써 매체의 특성을 탐구하는 것을 즐기며 집요한 수집가로 이야기와 쓰레기를 모은다. 최근에는 1930년대와 1980년대 생활의 작은 조각들을 수집하고 있다. 2021년 네마프, 2022년 서울 독립영화제 등에서 그녀의 작업을 선보였으며 그 외에도 다수의 전시를 통해 작품을 선보이고 있다.
Vatae Kimlee majored in fine art and history in college. As a visual artist, she loves to experiment with different forms. She is researching on and experimenting with the forms and ethics of interviews. Recently, her biggest interest is picking up the oral history of Korean women in their 50s~80s and picking up shiny mystery things on a road. She has been selected for the Seoul International Alternative Cinema & Media festival and won an award in the Seoul Independent Film Festival and has shown her various artworks at several exhibitions in Korea.
