ARTIST'S NOTE

세계 신기록, 깨지는 몸으로부터 오는 깨지지 않아야 하는 ‘기록’. 명예이기 전에 전산시스템이다. 그건 신기록을 만들기 위해 투쟁하는 신체가 뜨겁고 매서운 마찰을 일으키는 것에 반해 정적이고 이산적인 값이다. 유한한 몸들이 무한한 값이 되기 위해 깨져나간다.

올림픽 중계방송, 가장 정치적인 촬영 세트장의 한가운데에 ‘젊은 몸’들만이 경기를 치룬다. ‘젊은 몸’ 그것은 영원을 바라보게 되었을지라도 유한한 신체를 지니고 있는 한, 생물학적인 죽음과 가장 솔직하게 연계되는 ‘신체적 전성기‘라는 생중계다. 이 세계도 생물학적 전성기의 막바지에 도달해간다. 그리고 온갖 방식의 카메라가 이 생중계에 증인 선다. 카메라가 현실을 증언하고 카메라가 현실을 반박하고 카메라가 환상을 직조하며 카메라가 환상을 무너트린다. 그 속에서 이 세계와 개인은 자신의 가장 사적인 순간을 가장 공적인 사건으로 목격 당한다. 그 역사가 호텔방 단위의 조그만 세상 안에서 바톤을 주고 받는다.

World records. An unbreakable "record" that comes from a breakable body. It's a computerized system before it's an honor. It's a static, discrete value, as opposed to the hot, fiery friction of bodies struggling to break a record. Finite bodies are broken to become infinite values.
In the middle of the most political set of the Olympic broadcast, only 'young bodies' compete. 'Young bodies' is a live broadcast of 'physical heyday' that is most honestly linked to biological death, as long as we have a finite body, even if it has come to look toward eternity. This world is also reaching the end of its biological heyday. And cameras of all kinds bear witness to this live broadcast. Cameras testify to reality, cameras refute reality, cameras weave illusions, and cameras tear down illusions. In the process, these worlds and individuals have their most private moments witnessed as the most public of events. History is batoned back and forth within the small world of a hotel room.
