ARTIST'S NOTE

<조용한 이주>는 해외입양아와 양부모가 가족관계 형성에 갖는 어려움에 대해 이야기하는 영화다. 지난 세월 동안 나는 수많은 입양아들과 이야기를 나눴다. 그들의 공통점은 가족관계 형성을 위한 부인하기 어려운 과제들이 있고, 새로운 가족과 완전히 융화되기가 어렵다는 것이었다. 영화를 통해 우리(해외입양아)와 우리의 생활을 역사의 일부로 포함시키고, 숨겨진 우리의 삶을 드러내면서 이러한 특이한 유형의 이주가 가져오는 예상치 못한 결과들을 내부자의 관점에서 주목하고 싶었다.

"The Quiet Migration" centers around transnational adoption and the difficult formation of kinship in adoptive families. Through the years, I’ve talked to countless adoptees and their common ground has undeniably been the challenge of forming a kinship and the difficulty of becoming a united family. Through the film, I wanted to take note of the unexpected consequences of this unusual type of migration from an insider's perspective, including us (foreign adoptees) and our lives as part of history, and revealing our hidden lives.
