DESCRIPTION
1966년, 디앤 볼쉐이 림은 미국 가정에 입양되어 한국에서 새로운 고향으로 보내졌다. 캘리포니아에서 자란 딘은 반복되는 꿈을 통해 한국인 어머니가 살아 있다는 사실을 알게 된다. 이를 알기 전까지 딘은 친가족에 대한 기억을 거의 지워버릴 뻔했다. 친가족과 입양가족을 용감하게 하나로 묶어낸 딘의 진심 어린 여정을 통해 <일인칭 복수>라는 가족과 상실, 두 정체성의 화해에 관한 가슴 뭉클한 에세이를 완성했다. 일인칭 복수는 선댄스 영화제(Sundance Film Festival)에서 세계 최초로 공개되었으며, 샌프란시스코 국제 영화제에서 최우수 베이 지역(Bay Area) 다큐멘터리 부문 심사위원 대상과 DocAviv에서 최우수 다큐멘터리상을 수상했다.
In 1966, Deann Borshay Liem was adopted by an American family and was sent from Korea to her new home. Growing up in California, the memory of her birth family was nearly obliterated until recurring dreams lead Deann to discover the truth: her Korean mother was very much alive. Bravely uniting her biological and adoptive families, Deann's heartfelt journey makes FIRST PERSON PLURAL a poignant essay on family, loss, and the reconciling of two identities. FIRST PERSON PLURAL celebrated its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and received the Grand Jury Prize for Best Bay Area Documentary at the San Francisco International Film Festival and Best Documentary at DocAviv.

Deann Borshay Liem is an Emmy Award-winning documentarian known for films that explore war, memory, family and identity including her landmark adoption films First Person Plural, In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee and Geographies of Kinship. Her work on the Korean War including Memory of Forgotten War, Crossings and the oral history project, Legacies of the Korean War, explores divided families and women’s role in peacemaking.
