  야마구치 카츠히로Katsuhiro YAMAGUCHI

  1928년 도쿄 출생, 1950년대 초부터 아방가르드 예술가 집단 '실험공방'의 멤버로 활동했다. 같은 시기에 제작한 반입체 회화 작품 '비트린' 시리즈와 60년대에 발표한 입체 조형 작품으로 세계적으로 높은 평가를 받았으며, 70년대 이후에는 비디오 미디어를 이용한 작품 제작에 도전하여 미디어 아트의 선구자로서 왕성한 활동을 전개했다. 말년에는 병의 후유증과 싸우면서 유연하게 작풍을 변화시키며 자신의 새로운 경지를 개척해 나갔으며, 2018년 5월 패혈증으로 사망했다.

  Katsuhiro Yamaguchi was born in Tokyo in 1928. In the early 1950s, he was a member of the avant-garde artist group “Experimental Studio”. He gained worldwide acclaim for his series of semi-dimensional paintings, “Vitrine,” which he continued to produce from the 1950s, and for his sculptural works in the 1960s. Since the 1970s, he worked with video media to create his works, and was an energetic pioneer of media art. In his later years, while battling the aftereffects of illness, and he flexibly changed his style and innovated for himself. He passed away from sepsis in May 2018.
