  배리 거슨Barry GERSON

  배리 거슨(1939년생)은 영화, 조각, 사진, 디지털 설치, 회화와 사진이 혼합된 작품 등을 만들어온 아티스트이자 영화 작가이다. 그는 펜실베이니아주 필라델피아에서 태어났으며, 그의 아버지는 영화관 체인을 운영했다. 독학으로 예술을 익힌 거슨은 주로 그의 영화 작업으로 잘 알려져 있다. 그는 1960년대 초에 첫 번째 영화 <네온 로즈 The Neon Rose>를 제작했으며, 이후 지금까지 총 34편 이상의 작품을 완성했다. 그의 작품들은 뉴욕 현대미술관(MoMA), 휘트니 미술관, 구겐하임 미술관 등에서 개인전 형식으로 상영되었고, 세계 각지의 미술관, 도서관, 기관들의 단체전에서도 소개되었다. 최근에는 앤솔로지 필름 아카이브와 샌프란시스코 시네마테크에서 그의 회고전이 열렸다.

  Barry Gerson (born 1939) is an artist-filmmaker who has made films, sculptures, photographic constructions, digital film installations, and mixed painting/photo works. Gerson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where his father owned a chain of movie theatres. Self taught, Gerson is most noted for his films. He made his first film, The Neon Rose, in the early nineteen sixties; since then he has completed over thirty-four films which have been shown in one-person shows at The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Guggenheim Museum, and in group shows at museums, libraries and institutions internationally. Retrospectives of his work have recently been mounted at Anthology Film Archives and The San Francisco Cinematheque.
